Free ERP/CRM Training Analysis Deck

for Project Managers & Instructional Designers

When rolling out a new ERP or CRM system, aligning business needs with training initiatives is critical. That’s why I created a comprehensive Training Analysis Deck designed to help you systematically analyze your training needs—from initial business impact to final delivery recommendations.

Today, I’m excited to share this free resource with CRM/ERP project managers and instructional designers. In this post, I’ll walk you through each slide, explaining its purpose and how it supports a successful training strategy.

What’s Inside the Deck?

This deck includes 7 slides, each one designed to help you walk a SME or Project Sponsor through a training analysis.

We begin with assessing whether training is needed at all with:

Is Training Needed?

Before planning any training, you must assess its necessity. This slide helps you evaluate:

  • Business Impact: How does the current system (or its shortcomings) affect operations?
  • Audience Impact: Which teams or roles are facing challenges that training could resolve?
Key takeaway: Determine if there’s a clear need for training by weighing both business and audience impacts.

Where is Training Needed?

Once you’ve confirmed that training is required, the next step is pinpointing exactly where it should be applied. This slide guides you in:

  • Identifying the specific roles, teams, or locations that need training support.
  • Mapping training needs to particular parts of the business process.
Key takeaway: A targeted approach ensures that the right people get the right training at the right time.

What Training is Needed?

After narrowing down the “where,” it’s time to define the “what.” This slide focuses on:

  • Analyzing tasks and processes that require training.
  • Detailing the content areas that must be covered to improve system use and efficiency.
Key takeaway: Clarify the specific training topics to ensure comprehensive coverage of the system’s functionalities.

Who Needs the Training?

Not every stakeholder requires the same level of detail. This slide helps you perform an audience analysis:

  • Identify various user groups (new hires, advanced users, support teams, etc.).
  • Tailor training content and methods based on the audience’s unique needs.
Key takeaway: Knowing your audience allows you to design more effective and engaging training programs.

How Will Training be Delivered?

The method of delivery can make or break a training program. In this section, you’re encouraged to consider:

  • Delivery Method Options: Quick Reference Cards (QRCs), videos, live sessions, and more.
  • Practical Considerations: Which methods are best suited for your organization’s culture and logistics?
Key takeaway: Choose a delivery format that maximizes engagement and knowledge retention.

And – a Bonus Slide! IF training is required, and you have it narrowed down to a QRC or a Video – this choice map will help you determine which one would work better.

Why Use This Deck?

This deck isn’t just a series of slides—it’s a framework designed to ensure no critical aspect of training analysis is overlooked. By walking through these questions and prompts, you can:

  • Align Training with Business Goals: Ensure that every training initiative supports overall business objectives.
  • Customize Content for Your Audience: Tailor training modules to fit the unique needs of different user groups.
  • Choose the Right Delivery Method: Select the most effective training tools to maximize engagement and retention.
  • Streamline Responsibilities: Clearly define roles so that each stakeholder knows exactly what to contribute.

I created this deck with my own CRM/ERP projects in mind, and I’m confident it can help you get a clear, actionable picture of your training needs.
